When It Rains...It Pours

Have you ever had an hour, day, week, month, year or season that was overwhelming? You lost your job…your house…a loved one…your marriage is falling apart?

With your eyes open to the natural – everything around you is in chaos. There is no order. Nothing seems to be going your way. You are being persecuted. You are being rejected, abandoned and misunderstood.

The world has a saying for it – “When it rains…it pours.” We all have had these moments or seasons in life.

The tendency when we are in these overwhelmed seasons is to operate in our natural - in our flesh.

--Panic mode

--Depression/isolation mode

--Negative/complaining mode

--Anger mode

Whatever “natural mode” is your tendency this is usually where our flesh takes us.

Indulge me for a minute… When we have our eyes open in the natural it is as if we have a radio channel half tuned in with so much screeching and scratching of static that it is choppy and difficult to hear and understand the voice on the other end of the radio. So it is with hearing God’s supernatural voice when our eyes remain open during these overwhelming seasons in our lives.

Just for ten minutes – instead of having your eyes open to all that is overwhelming you in the natural – pause and CLOSE YOUR EYES. Take your open eyes off the natural and close your eyes and enter into the super natural. An amazing thing happens when you physically close your eyes. You no longer see the natural and the chaos.

Matthew 6:22 says: “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light…”

Let’s take the opposite of this scripture – If you eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. This is where you are when you keep your eyes open and focused on the natural. If your eyes are so open to the natural where everything feels overwhelming, your eyes are not healthy. Your “lamp” (your eye) is not portraying light to your body. Maybe just maybe the darkness you may be feeling right now in the midst of feeling overwhelmed is because your eyes are unhealthy and need to be closed and given some spiritual cleansing. And the consequence of this lamp/eye is that it impacts the WHOLE body – not just part of it. There is a fullness and wholeness that is associated with the lamp/eye.

So the question is – do you desire a body full of darkness or a body full of light?

If you want a body full of light then close your eyes. Allow your lamp/eyes to refocus and hear the still small voice of the supernatural so that when you open your lamps back to the natural you will see the goodness and light despite the natural chaos that may surround you. There can be joy and peace in the midst of chaos and situations that in the natural are overwhelming. Be like this child - with his eyes closed with "child-like" faith.
